the baby room part 3 - coming together

two things that were important to me when putting together the baby room and it's theme:

1. not overtly gearing the color(s) to either gender, which means no all-pink or all-blue stuff. truthfully, i didn't even want to touch either color - at all. like, i know that a splash of pink or blue can look really nice with browns and tans while at the same time not being in-your-face girlish or boyish. but i want no part of it. i'm just being head strong. ask mike. he will agree.

2. not having whatever gender neutral theme we did pick be overly babyish or cutesy, even though it is, in fact, a baby room. i am just not in to cute and bubbly things. i have a real issue. and though i know it is for a cute and bubbly baby, i still cannot come to grips with it. you know, i've seen some really nice gender neutral themes out there. jungle animals. zoo animals. woodland animals. they all still push the limits of being too cutesy for me. i mean, i like them and all, but they are just not for me. i was dead set on having a baby room that was both baby and adult in nature.

okay okay - i'm sure you are ready to see pictures of what the room looks like right now. i've probably built it up so much in your minds that you are in for a massive anticlimactic shock. if that happens, i'm sorry. :-/

well. i don't know exactly how much i may have let you down. but i assure you that the room looks much more appealing in person.

a lot of thought, time and effort has gone in to this baby room so far and i am still quite excited and slightly proud that we have been able to put together a theme and baby room that is both baby and adult in nature.

best part of all, its not even done yet. this room is going to get even better as we near the end of my pregnancy. i can't wait till its 100% complete and filled with all the goodies that lillian might get from the baby shower. oh yeah. and little lillian herself! she'll be the best part of that room for sure...

i love it!

  1. LOVE IT!!!!!! So beautiful. I really like how it is not extra baby and cutesy. My baby room will probably be a little more babyish. Not because I want it to be that way, especially, but just because I didn't really think of any other way! I'm just getting a few store bought decorations and throwing them up. No painting. Partly because I am not super into decorating myself. But mostly because we live in an apartment temporarily, and I can't justify putting that much work into the nursery when we'll be moving in a few months or maybe a year and a few months if we do one more year on our lease. ...I think when we finally settle in the house that we will stay in for several years, I will be able to put more effort into decorating each room.

Anyway... BRAVO on your nursery! I really do LOVE IT.

PS- I think it also goes along with your wedding... being at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and all...
